I am a Wikipedia:administrator since July 5, 2004. I first contributed to Wikipedia in April of 2001 (oldest edits lost in early software upgrades). My first edit with my username appears to be on April 26. Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. This is a very slow-moving edit war involving the insertion, deletion, and reinsertion of a few words in a long article with the edits and counter-edits occurring (mostly) at multiple day intervals. Because the edits in question are not blatant vandalism or (as far as I can tell, but correct me if I'm wrong) BLP violations, there needs to be some evidence of discussion having first been attempted. Otherwise, protection would serve merely to enforce registered users preferences over those of IP editors. Moreover, even if protection were warranted, moving a page with no history of protection to indefinite protection would be a serious overreach. If there are WP:3RR violations (which doesn't appear to be the case), this can be reported at WP:AN/3RR. Chetsford (talk) 03:15, 16 February 2025 (UTC)

@OpalYosutebito: That's difficult. It won't be indefinitely protected but it conceivably could qualify for temporary. The problem is that the bad posts by IPs are occurring roughly every two or four weeks (I did not see any good posts). Generally, that is regarded as not enough of a problem to warrant protection. Why is an Indian editor so persistent to delete content from the page of a Bangladeshi Member of Parliament? Ratnahastin has been accused of gaming the system and misreporting editors who did not violate Wikipedia policy. There are reasons why this content is important. A former Prime Minister of India knew this gentleman (who is the subject of the aforementioned article). This unprotection request is borderline-incomprehensible, but to the extent that it is understandable, you're basically requesting to lower the protection (from XCP to SP) because of sockpuppetry? That's akin to canceling your fire insurance because an arsonist is busy pouring gasoline on your front stoop. Reason: The article has been semi-protected indefinitely since 2023 over anti-vax edits. It's been over a year since then (closer to two years), so it might be a good idea to at least experiment with pending changes protection. The protecting admin Courcelles is currently inactive (last edit was in December and has generally been inactive for some time), so bringing up here. I'm aware of the current political climate, but as the subject is Japanese and not American, I don't necessarily see that as a major issue. This time, rather than full unprotection, I'm merely asking for a reduction to pending changes protection as an experiment to see if long-term semi is even still warranted (this is per the testing unprotection guideline). @C1K98V Is it just me or the webpage you're linking to from colorstv.com is redirecting to a /mena/ directory making it impossible to see what you're talking about or citing. As for the indiatoday.in, you did not initially position the citation as of when Schwede66 started reviewing your request, you only repositioned the citation today. Hi Vanderwaalforces, I'm not sure if the Colorstv website works outside of India. Let's wait for Schwede66 to confirm if they're able to verify it. 1. Translated content without attribution

In October 2024, I misunderstood the rules regarding proper attribution for translated content. Since January 2025, I believe I have consistently included proper attribution in all my edit summaries, as demonstrated in these examples: here, here or here.


2. Split article contributions

Regarding this concern, I would like to clarify that my first 350 edits, made between 2006 and 2013, occurred before the 500 edits rule was introduced (2016). These edits could not have been intended to meet a requirement that did not exist at the time.
I acknowledge that I intentionally split my contributions to reach the 500 edits threshold, only for the remaining 150 contributions needed to meet this target.
However, since then, I have made over 700 additional contributions (~1200 in total) without splitting them. This can be seen in my average edit size, which is approximately 350 bytes and aligns with averages observed among contributors, including administrators.

NPP puts powerful tools in the hands of users and they need an almost admin level knowledge of most policies. This comes very hard on the heels of you obtaining the PC right. I suggest you continue with that for a while and in the meantime thoroughly read the tutorial at WP:NPP, follow all the links to related processes and policies (especially CSD, Redirect, and moving), learn which parts needs consensus for changes, participate at WP:AfD to learn how that works, and then apply for a course at the NPP school in a couple of months. I come across bugs in template-protected templates from time to time, and I think I'm proficient enough to fix them without someone else checking it over. For instance, I recently submitted an edit request to fix {{Huggle/warn-unsor-2}}'s substitution behavior, and I found a similar issue in {{uw-editsummary2}}.     On Feb. 12, 2005, I did a random pages survey. Out of 100 random pages, only 1 was a U.S. town. That's progress. Three towns in the UK, 1 in Spain and 1 in Portugal also turned up. Overall biographies were the largest category at 22%, followed by geography with 15% total. Then Lists at 7%, Disambiguation pages at 6%.

    On Feb. 24, 2006, I repeated the 100 random page survey, this time getting 5 U.S. towns. Overall, geography had 26%, biography 21%, fiction 9%, music 4%, colleges 4%, lists 3% and disambigs 4%. Clearly geography and biography are our largest areas. Music, science and business scored less than I expected. Non-individual History was hardly discernable.

    Even by Feb. 2005, 100 out of almost 500,000 was not statistically significant but was as much as I had patience for.
